4 Ways to Maximize Your Comfort and Savings With a Ductless System

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Ductless systems offer quick and easy cooling and heating solutions for one or more zones, whether it's simply supplemental conditioning or a solution for a new addition or remodeled space. If you're the happy owner of a new ductless system, use these four tips to maximize comfort and savings in your home.

Temperature Settings

Ductless systems use high-efficiency refrigerant and high-tech components to maintain zonal comfort. Sensors continuously monitor coil temperature to maintain zone temperature within one degree of the thermostat setting.

Set the ductless thermostat to "heat" mode during cooler weather and "cool" during warmer weather. You may also use "auto" mode for automatic changeovers. Some regions, such as the Northwest U.S., should avoid using "auto" mode and stick with "heat" or "cool" for best comfort and efficiency.

Fan Settings

Mitsubishi Electric ductless systems offer multiple fan speeds for your comfort. Multiple airflow positions are important for optimal coil heat exchange, too. The recommended fan setting for maximum efficiency and comfort is "auto" fan. This allows the ductless system to change speeds as needed for best performance and maintain the zone temperature setting.

Sit Back and Relax

Now that you've got the temperature and fan settings adjusted just right for your zone, you can sit back, relax and let the ductless system do its thing. It's best not to tinker with settings if you know the current temperature setting is right for you, even if a door is opened and zone temperature changes. Your ductless unit will automatically adjust coil temperature and fan speed to get temperature back to set point.

Maximum Coverage

One of the wonderful aspects of ductless heating and cooling is its flexibility. Mini splits have one air handling unit (AHU) designed for one zone, while multi split models offer two or more AHUs, with a maximum total of nine AHUs available for one outside compressor. Ductless systems are compact and quiet units, but deliver big.
